We’re very grateful that lots of you will be coming a long way for this occasion. Fortunately, Herefordshire is a beautiful county, with many charming cottages and country hotels to make your stay memorable.
Where to stay
Searches on Air BnB and Cottages.com show options for all budgets and group sizes in and around Ross-on-Wye. Or for a hotel stay, here are some Tripadvisor options, or ebookers.com.

For a hotel stay, these come recommended by the locals:
The Bridge House provides very comfortable accommodation with riverside views. It’s about ten minutes from Walford, near Ross-on-Wye
The Hostelrie at Goodrich offers some old-world charm, situated just next to the ruins of Goodrich Castle. It’s about five minutes out of Walford.
For a fancy-looking ‘restaurant with rooms’, how about the splendours of Wilton Court?
Or for the traditional B&B experience, try Pam, who has two rooms she lets further up Bulls Hill from Wythall, (Mrs Pam Watters, The Rock, Cherry Tree Lane, Bulls Hill, Walford, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire HR9 5RJ, Phone: +44 1989 763055, pam.watters@btopenworld.com).

Food and Drink

Of course, we intend to feast you royally at the reception, but if you’re coming to make a trip of it, Hereford can boast some of the best local produce and restaurants in the country. It’s also famous for friendly, cosy pubs. Guy and Sheila, who run the beautiful Lower Wythall B&B, have kindly provided a list of local pubs and restaurants; you’ll be spoilt for choice!
Things to Do
We hope you will have some time to enjoy the countryside and hospitality of Herefordshire and the area while you’re here. We aim to organise a leisurely day-after get together for the Sunday, but in the meantime, here are some suggestions for what to visit, sample or try out:
- Climb up Symon’s Yat for it’s amazing views, or head down to the river for canoe hire.
- Get lepidopterous at Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo
- Descend into the Clearwell Caves in the Forest of Dean
- Experience history at Goodrich Castle. (Legends say that a secret tunnel runs from Wythall up to the Castle; a prize to anyone who finds it!)
- It may be cider country, but Hereford has its marvellous ales, too. Fancy a taster at the Hillside Brewery? Local wines are gaining a good reputation, too. The Three Choirs Vineyard are partners with Wythall’s own marque, Tudor Manor.
- If unique local shops is your thing, Ross-on-Wye has plenty of independent stores, including bookshops, art and pottery studios, and out favourite Chinese restaurant, China Boy Jo.
- And, with the Forest of Dean and the Brecon Beacons on our doorstep, it’s and easy drive to see wild boar, wilder hillsides and bewildering place names. We’re less than an hour from Hay-on-Wye and Tintern Abbey, too!
